The main objective of the seminar is to train any person who wishes to apply the Health and Safety Regulations, to monitor and ensure through proper procedures the safe execution of work in the workplace.

Training Need

The legal obligation of the employer to provide the minimum training to the designated ΕΣΥΠΠ persons or self-employed or self-employed employers who will carry out the protection and prevention activities, as well as the safety committee chairperson. The program covers specific modules of training for a total of 35 hours of training required by the Department of Labour Inspection for the minimum training of these persons who will conduct the protection and prevention activities internally based on Κ.Δ.Π 238/2021.

  1. Name the different sources of danger from work equipment.

  2. Describe safe working methods.

  3. Describe and articulate current Cypriot legislation and relevant EU directives on fire extinguishing, fire safety and workplace evacuation.

  4. To formulate the Psychosomatic hazards

  5. Identify the electrical hazards.

At skills level
  1. Explain the provisions of the Cyprus Legislation on Health and Safety issues toworkplaces.

  2. To select the appropriate PPE in the workplace.

  3. Explain the physical, chemical and biological agents.

At the attitudinal level
  1. Work together to implement ways to address or reduce risks.

  2. Participate in the identification of hazards in various occupational activities (work at height, handling of loads, persons and vehicles, etc.)

Description of candidates for participation

Persons designated by the employer or self-employed persons or employers who will carry out the protection and prevention activities internally as well as the chairperson of the safety committee.

Training Methods

The Programme is conducted in the form of a lecture and at the same time dialogue and discussion are encouraged. During the seminar, workshops and exercises are carried out for a better understanding of the theoretical part of the programme, examples are given and role-playing takes place. Modern audio-visual aids such as Multimedia Projector, Projection Screen, Computer, Blackboard, Markers, Graphics and Worksheets are also used for better education and training of the participants. Each trainee is also given/sent notes in electronic format on the seminar topics.

Data Retention & Evaluation System 
 

The electronic attendance register used by the ANAD will be maintained and the instructor will be responsible for keeping it.

At the end of the programme, the trainees will be given an evaluation form of the programme and the trainer(s), which will also show the degree of implementation of the programme.

Trainer Description
Michalis Theodotou

Mr. Michalis Theodotou holds an MA in Industrial Relations and Health and Safety (Middlesex University). He has been an approved trainer of the ANAD since 2015 and ΕΞΥΠΠ since 2007. He was a Member of the Pancyprian Health and Safety Council 2002 -2019. He also served as Member of the Board of the Cyprus Safety and Health Association since 2012 and Secretary of the Cyprus Safety and Health Association from 2016 - 2018. In the research field he has participated as a researcher in several research projects and as a special researcher in the following specialized projects. Author of part of a manual on risk assessment in the Banking Sector within the framework of the LEONARDO "TRIA" project 2006-2007. OIRA Project: expert in the preparation of the interactive OIRA Tool for Education (2014-2015). SAYC Survey on Occupational Stress 2014-2015. ΣΑΗΚ Survey on "Safe and Healthy Workplaces for All Ages" 2016-2017. Served as a barrister at the Labour Disputes Tribunal. He has given dozens of lectures on labour and health and safety issues. Due to his global experience in labour, he analyses the issues with a holistic approach taking into account all labour parameters, safety and health, equality, labour relations. Mr. Michalis Theodotou is a Vocational Training Instructor and has the required academic qualifications and professional experience provided in order to ensure the effective implementation of this programme. In particular, the trainer is experienced in the implementation of this programme, as well as being an AnAD level 5 certified trainer.
